New Music Cinema – a definition

By employing techniques typically used in film production in the service of contemporary music along with visual art, I have coined a new music/multi-media genre I call “New Music Cinema”.  Characteristics of this genre include:

  • New/contemporary original music composed specifically for the visual content
  • Use of Digital Audio Workstation technology to produce the music & sound effects soundtrack (used by most film composers)
  • Creative and artistic use of original and/or existing images and film clips to produce the visual content
  • Similar to opera, the storyline can be dramatic and embody existential overtones
  • The final production is usually at least  10 – 15 minutes (or more) in length
